30 folios. 15.5-16 x 22 cm. 2 columns (width 7 cm), 15 lines. Ff. 8r and 9'are partly dark, the top edge of bif. 12/15 has been cut out.
14th c. Large initials: 1) red, and 2) dark blue (iron blue). In general small initials are highlighted with red. Quadratic notation on a red four-line staff (8-9 mm), b rotundum. Beside the usual ones the letter g appears as a clef. Photograph off. 14'on p. 44. Antiphoners Nos. 29 and 30 bear a stylistic resemblance to this one, and the distances between sewing holes are also clear. Note the cameral records of these fragments. Antiphoner No. 36 (Lincopense ?) may be work of the same scriptorium. See SRA KA Finska Cameralia 37 "[...] Christersons (...) Söder Finland 1554"(one bifolium) .The last of these cannot originate from the same codex as No. 28, however, because their contents (hat. Mariaej overlap each other.
Stylistic resemblance can be seen with the uncatalogued missal-processional "Nr. 8" (written space 11.5 x 17 cm, 2 columns, 13 lines), preserved in the Em. collection.
ANTIPHONARIUM CUM COLLECTIS, CAPITULIS ET NONNULLIS HYMN IS, secular, Nordic. The feast of St.Eskil (12th of June) is not observed, see Malin 1925 pp. 225-226, Schmid 1931 (a) pp. 102-104, Helander 1957 p. 181, Milveden 1972 (a) p. 25, and Lunden 1983 p. 238.- On the cult of Eskil in Finland see Taitto 1996.
If there was an office for St. Henry in the original codex, it was situated at the 19th of January, because the feast of St. Agnes (21st of January) follows right after St. Fabian and Sebastian. Outside the diocese of Abo this double feast was observed on the 20th of January. This reason itself is sufficient to presume that the codex was not produced for Åbo. Malin 1925 pp. 214-217. Furthermore, the Dedication of the Åbo cathedral (17th of June) and St. Henry's summer feast (18th of June, only in the calendar of Abo) are ignored. Some cameral and other records (biff. 8/9, 11/16, 12/15 and 13/14) imply that the documents were attached to their wrappers in Finland, however.
The sequence of folios and quires may suggest that St. Eric's office was documented here in its extended form, officium uovem lectionum. If this is true, this must be taken into account in trying to date the source more precisely. Haapanen 1927 p. 76 assigns the authorship of the longer form to the bishop of Linköping (1374-1391), Nicolaus Hermanni. In any case, it dates back to the latter half of the 14th century at the earliest (idem pp. 74-75, Nilsson 2000 pp. 18-21).Along with a rather early date of our fragment there is another reason for caution about assuming there were three nocturns: the rubric on f. 16" does not give a number to the nocturn, so that it looks like being the only one.
The order of the great responsories (II and III nocturns) at Christmas is changed by a remark in the margin on f. V', a correction which precludes the following normative uses: Lincopense, Arosiense, Scarense and Franciscanum.
F. 1 [In die nativitatis Domini] beginning diebus, the third word of the 2nd ant. of the II nocturn, [Orietur in], and ending erat uerbum of the 3rd resp. of the III noct., Uerbum caro V In principio.
