15th e. Large initials: 1) blue (nearly ultramarine) ornamented with brown hairlines, 2) red ornamented with green hairlines, and 3) green usually ornamented with red hairlines. Small initials highlighted with red, and in places with straw yellow and/or light blue. Many small initials are ornamented with brown hairlines and human head-like figures. Coloration of the initials and the style of design could be associated directly with the Codex Aboensisfrom the mid-15th century (Stockholm, KB B 172), see Codex Aboénsis 1974, Codex Aboensis 1978passim, and Edgren 1997p. 53 (1436-1440 ?). Quadratic notation of a larger size on a red four-line staff (27-27.5 mm, ruled with a rastrum), custos, b rotundum, linea (chant incipits are indicated by duplex lineae). Photograph ofifi 21'on p. 183. Bears stylistic resemblances to Antiphoners Nos. 165 and 203 (Dominicanum- Aboense) in our catalogue. SRA KA Förläningsregister 33 Finland 1589 (one fi) has possibly been loosened from the same manuscript.

Since headline texts on ff. 1,2 and 3 run over the fold at the parchment edge, they must have been written before binding. A number of paper sheets was found inside the covers of these wrappers, belonging to the second volume of Finnish homilies by the bishop of Abo 1583-1625. the famous Ericus Erici (Eerik Sorolainen Fi).The book was printed in Stockholm in 1625, but the binding was presumably made in Finland. See ff. 4, 5, 12, 16, 17 and 19 as well. F.m. 11l No. 180 (Dominican hymnary from the 15th c) consists of three bif, each of which included sheets from the same book of homilies. Because the documents inside the wrappers were from 1629-1631 (from the province of Abo), like the taxes of Antiphoner No. 163 (Helsingfors), it seems clear that the binding was made in the same place. On f. 7 there are two records written in Stockholm which suggest that the Finnish documents (from Nedre Satakunda) received at Stockholm on the 4th of September in 16211 were soon separated from the original wrapper. Certain documents from Savolaks of the year 1619 would later have been bound into the vellum. - There are four headlines on this leaf. Two headlines on ff. 15, 16, 17 and 19, all associate with Finland. F. 1" 452 "Johan Greekz Rakmngh fbr Helsingefars Ranterr och Profwiandht medh Krigzhielpen och Utschrifningzhielpen pro ANNO 1631". "Finland 1631 No 6". F. 2' 435 "Jahan Greekz Rakmngh for Hellsingfars Ranterij Profwiandt och Krigzhielpen Pro ANNO 1629"."Finland 1629 No 5". F. 3' Cf. 442. "Johan Greeks Special Rackningh Aff Helsingefors Ranttenj och Profwiantt pro ANNO etc 1630". "Finland 1630 No 4". F. 4'1877 "Ahrlige Renttan affMasko haredh Pro anno 1628"."No 11". Some tax receipts seem to have formed cover fillings of the wrapper, a piece of which still survives. It was sewn to the parchment in the same way as the sheets of the homily book (see above).
F. 5' 1876 "Marthen Michelsans [...[skapp fbr Masko Haredh ock [...] 1628". "Finland 1628 No 11".The preceding remark also applies to this leaf. "Johannes Franssti" (?).There has been an older headline behind this one, from the year 1616, but not much more than the number is visible. Kiuasmaa 1962 p. 516 claims that Henrik Matsson was a scrivener at Abo chambers in 1587--1590.The certification of the audit shows clearly that the documents were attached to their wrapper in Finland. F. 13' (Upper half) "18. Fran 8.0 Schaumans kvarlatenskap." Berndt Otto Schauman (1821-1895) was a known art-lover and writer in Helsinki. See Antiphoner No. 125 as well.
