ANTIPHONARIUM CUM HYMNIS, LECTIONIBUS ET TONIS IN VITATO RIO RUM, includes chants for the weekly Bridgettine cycle of offices (Cantus sororum), Geete 1895 passim. No doubt the codex was owned by the Bridgettine cloister of Nådendal. This presumption is based on the audit of taxes in Abo, see the records on f 2'.
If the source really dates back to the end of the 14th century two facts regarding the terminus post quern must be taken into account: 1) the cycle of Cantus sororum was compiled up to the beginning of the 1360s, (Officium parvum I 1976 pp. XXI-XXII), and 2) the monastic life at Vadstena was initiated in 1384 (Diarium Vadstenense 1988 p. 118). Primary provenance at Vadstena thus cannot be excluded.
According to a note written by Dr. Haapanen this fragment is of the 15th century.
F. 1 [Cantus sororum, feria iij] beginning credebant homines of the 2nd lesson at matins, [Ejectus denique Adam], and ending consolari non omi[sit] of the same lesson, as far as it possible to determine, because of the defective written surface. Ff. 2-3 [Idem) continuing with the psalm ant. at lauds, [Scitote populi].The defective written space prevents the beginning being determined exactly. Ends in the rubric of II vespers. "5° Hymns: Dolens adam ex, Ueni creator spiritus. F. 4 [Ut supra, feria iv] beginning [adore]mus et of the invitatory psalm, and ending nequiciam maria of the 2nd ant. at matins, Repelle a tabemaculis. The scribe has not written any music for the words tuns filius of the ant. Corrige uirgo prudentissima. Hymn: Errorum pleno tenebris.
Bit. 2/3 was presumably attached to its docunrents in Finland, see cameral records on f 2'. Haapanen 1922 p. XXV. A small paper was enclosed with the bifolium, written by Dr. Haapanen, containing the note:"Obs! Suomesta!" (Attention! From Finland!). The scrivener, Lars Trulsson, is known to have audited at Abo chambers during 1601-1604. Lehtinen 1961 p. 129.
